1. Quickbooks’ prescribe you to keep a password of at least 7 characters long
2. There should be at least one numeric character
3. Password must contain one uppercase letter
4. No spaces are allowed
5. The QB passwords are case sensitive, so check the cap-lock and num-lock while creating passwords.
6. The password should be a strong and little complex

How to Change Your QuickBooks Online password

It is very easy to change the QuickBooks Online password. But the password can only be changed by the administrator of the account or in simple words, no other person than the account holder can make changes to the password or sign-in information. To change the password for QuickBooks online, you can perform the method given below, let’s roll through:

Change password on QuickBooks Online:

1. First sign-in to QuickBooks Online
2. Now go to Settings and then select Intuit Account
3. Select “Password” and then click Edit to change your password and
4. Now, create a new password and then choose Save

How to Reset your Password for QuickBooks Desktop:

If you have lost or forgotten the QuickBooks password for your QuickBooks Desktop program on Windows, here are the steps using which you can retrieve your QuickBooks Desktop password.

Step 1: Check the Type of Your QB password

There are two types of QuickBooks passwords namely user password and admin password.

Admin password:

You are using the “admin password” when:

1. You don’t require to enter a username while signing-in and you just enter the password
2. The username of your account is “Admin” or any admin user-name that you have created manually.
3. You don’t need any permission of anyone to change the admin password

User password:

When you aren’t the admin of the account, and you need to ask the admin to change or reset the password whenever required.

Step 2: Reset Password According to the Type:

Important note: If you are upgrading the QuickBooks from the earlier version to QuickBooks Desktop 2020, you need to reset the password in the earlier version first.

How to Reset the QB Admin Password:

For QuickBooks 2020:

1. Go to the company login window and choose “I forgot my password”

2. Now enter your recovery information. For instance, if you enter the email address, you will receive the reset token on your email.

3. Provide the reset token you received.

Important note; the QB Emails can be flagged as spam hence check the spam folder if you can’t find a reset token in your inbox.

4. Create a new password for your Quickbooks Desktop account

For QuickBooks 2019 or earlier:

1. Go to the QuickBooks Desktop software and click on I forgot my password 
2. Now fill the details you have been asked for, such as:
• The license number of your QB desktop version. You can find the license number by clicking the F2 key on the login window of QB.
• The email address, name, phone number, zip code; all details should be the same as you used while purchasing the software. All these details can be found on the Customer Account Management Portal of QB
3. After entering the correct information, click OK and then you will receive an email with reset code on the email address that you have provided above. Usually, the emails from Quickbooks land in the spam folder. So make sure you check it, if you haven’t received the code in your inbox.
4. Now follow the on-screen prompts to create a new admin password. 

How to Reset a QuickBooks User Password:

You need the admin password with you to reset the user password. And, follow the steps given below:

1. Log in as the admin user to your company file of QuickBooks
2. Go to “Company” and then “Set Up Users and Passwords”. 
3. Then, select “Set Up” users
4. You will be asked to enter your admin password.  If not, go to the next step
5. From the “User List”, choose the user who needs to reset the password and then click “Edit User”
6. Create a new password and enter it twice 
7. Click Finish.

How to Use the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop:

1. First, you need to download and install the QuickBooks Automated Password Reset Tool on your device. This tool enables you to reset the admin password for your QB company files. You can get it here: https://passwordreset.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/passwordreset
2. To download First select the “QuickBooks for Windows 2019 or below”, then you will be asked to fill the details such as:
• License number 
• Name (First name and last name)
• Email address
• Confirm email
• Business phone number 
• Zipcode

Important Note: make sure you enter the information that you have used while purchasing the QuickBooks Desktop version for your device.

3. If you don’t have the correct details with you, log-in to https://camps.intuit.com/ and you will get all the details that you used during the sign-up.
4. Now, accept the license agreement and the tool will start downloading on your device. But if the tool is not downloading automatically, you can click on the “Download now” option.
5. Then you will be asked to Run or Save the setup file, select Save to save it on your system.
6. Now, run the QuickBooks Password reset tool on your desktop. Then, enter the token number that you received in your email.
7. Next, from the drop-down menu of e QuickBooks Desktop Products, choose the QuickBooks version you have.
8. Click on “Browse for Company File” and then select the company file for which you need to reset the password
9. Provide the “Admin user name” for the file, if you have set any.
10. Now, enter the new password and confirm it, 

Important Note: Just create a temporary password as after signing-in to the company file you will be asked to change the password.

11. Now, choose “Reset Password” to save the new password.

Now, you can use the newly created password to access your QuickBooks company file. The tool is meant for one-time use only. If you need to reset the password again, you need to fill the verification form again and generate a new reset token for your password.
